Langtang Valley Trek Permits
Langtang Valley Trek, shortly known as Langtang Trek, is a week-long adventure walk inside Langtang National Park. You must purchase two essential Langtang Valley Trek Permits if you’re planning for this trek. They are the TIMS Card and the Langtang National Park Entry Permit. Every individual trekker must have these two permits to trek in Langtang. Even for Nepali nationals, the park entry permit is a must.
Our trek leader wrote this blog after completing his guided Langtang Valley Trek in February 2023. Thus, we hope this blog has the most authentic and first-hand information regarding the permits. Also, you’ll learn about Langtang permit fees, required documents, permit issue centers, and more.

Trekker’s Information Management System-TIMS Card
TIMS Card is a must-permit if you’re considering Langtang Valley Trek in 2024. However, TIMS is no longer necessary for other treks in Nepal. Nepal Government and Tourism governing bodies record your information using a TIMS Card. It includes your entry and exit date for Langtang Trek.
TIMS Card is no longer available for individual trekkers. Previously, it was available at the Nepal Tourism Board and TAAN. However, in 2024, to get this permit, you must process it through a registered trekking agency.
If planning a solo Langtang Trek, you must request trekking agencies for a FIT TIMS card. Alongside the permit fee, You’ll have to pay a certain fee as a service fee for the agency.
However, if you’re trekking to Langtang with us, we’ll purchase all Langtang Trek Permits.
TIMS Card Cost
TIMS Card costs USD 20 or NPR 2000, including VAT. This cost is applicable for free individuals and trekkers in groups. It is valid for a month of purchase.
Where to get a TIMS Card for Langtang Valley Trek in 2024?
Previously, the TIMS Card was available at the Nepal Tourism Board and TAAN in Kathmandu. However, in 2024, this permit is no longer available at these places. So, to get this permit, you must approach a registered trekking agency. Even if you want to trek solo, you must process a TIMS Card from the registered trekking agency.
To do so, you must pay some fee as a service fee for the trekking agency.

- Valid Passport
- One passport-sized photo (recent)
- Valid Nepali Visa
- Nepali Currency for permit fee(preferred)
- Proof of Travel Insurance Policy
Langtang National Park Entrance Permit
Langtang Trek is in Langtang National Park. Hence, you must purchase a Langtang National Park entry permit. You can get this permit at the permit center if you have time to visit the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu. However, this permit is also accessible at the Langtang National Park entry at Dhunche.
This permit remains valid for a month of purchase.
Langtang Permit Fee- Cost of Langtang National Park Entrance permit
This permit costs USD 30 or NPR 3000, including VAT for foreigners except for SAARC Nationals.
SAARC Nationals are required to purchase this permit with USD 15 or NPR 2000, including VAT.
And for Nepali, this permit costs NPR 100, including VAT.

Langtang Trek Permits – Why are they must?
- To keep the information of individual and group trekkers trekking in the region.
- To track the trekkers based on the entry date for emergency search and rescue.
- To prevent illegal activity inside the national park.
- Royalty from the Langtang permit fee goes directly to the trek route maintenance and development of the national park area.
Backpack check at Langtang National Park Checkpost
Nepal Army guards Langtang National Park. Hence, the army officials will check your backpack before issuing the park entry permit. They’ll look at whether trekkers carry prohibited items while trekking in the national park.
What they’ll look for?
- Inflammatory items like gas and stove
- Knives
- Drone without flying permit and permission
- Alcohol, cigarettes, music speakers, etc.
No more Langtang Trek Permits (TIMS Card) for Solo Trekking
Langtang Valley Trek is no longer accessible for Free Individual Trekkers as the FIT TIMS Card is no longer accessible for individual trekkers. The Nepal Government has now mandated the compulsory hiring of a trekking guide on every trek in Nepal.
But, past April 1, 2023, the Nepal Tourism Board and TAAN don’t issue TIMS cards for solo trekkers. Now, registered trekking agencies are only able to issue this permit. If you’re planning Langtang Valley Trekking in 2024, hire a licensed trek guide or buy the trek with a trek agency like us.
Carry your Langtang Valley Trek Permits throughout the trek
Keep your Langtang Trek Permits safe after checking in your Langtang Permits at the Dhunche check-post. Since there’s a permit checking office at Ghoda Tabela, you must show your TIMS Card and Langtang National Park Permit there. The permit office is just to the left, a few stairs up from the trek route.
