Windspeed

October can be windy due to lower humidity and drier air. Thus, you can expect some wind gusts at the Annapurna Base Camp area after midday. Due to this, you may feel some cold on your hands and feet.

You’ll get awe-struck by the humongous figures of Annapurna I and Annapurna South, which stand tall at the base camp.

Also, MachhapuchhreHiuchuli, Gangapurna, and other mountains make the surroundings remarkable. On a clear weather day in October, these mountains appear spectacular. They shine so bright that you’ll need decent sunglasses to watch them.

Aside from the base camp, other places that elevates your trek experience are Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Ghandruk. On a clear weather day here in October, you’ll get the spellbinding sight of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna.

Cultural Escapade

October isn’t only for clear weather and wholesome mountain panorama. It’s also a time for a vibrant festive season in Nepal. Nepalese celebrate the two major festivals in October.

Dashain is a prominent Hindu festival in Nepal. Every year, this ten-day-long festival falls in October. And, in 2025, the main event of this festival is on October 1.

Hindu people put red or white Tika (a mix of rice, curd, sugar, and red colour) on their foreheads on this day. You may see tea house owners putting Tika and even greeting the trekkers with it. The locals even treat you with locally brewed alcohol, meat, and beaten rice. And even request you to put Tika on your forehead as well.

Try to wander like a local while trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in October. Also, don’t hesitate to celebrate Dashain with locals and even your trek guide and porter.

Suppose you’ll be in Kathmandu on September 29; take advantage of the visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square. You can either request us or hire a guide for this day. Kathmandu Durbar Square hosts a grand event of Fulpati, the 7th day of Dahsain. The soldiers bring flowers and other materials to this place from the Gorkha Durbar. It has an immensely enriched history and cultural significance, which you’ll learn with your guide.

Thus, Annapurna Base Camp Trek in October will not only be an adventure but also a cultural junket as well.

Trekking gears for October- What to bring?

Unlike in September, the Annapurna Base Camp Temperature in October gets colder. With nighttime averaging around -6˚C, the daytime temperature lowers to 6-7˚C. Thus, you’ll need proper trekking gear to trek here in October.

Wind-stopper for the day, a down jacket for the evening, and a sleeping bag for the night are essential. Confirm that your Wind-stopper has air ventilation to prevent you from sweating.

-A 15˚C rated down jacket is usually recommended for October. Also, a sleeping bag withstanding -20˚C is a recommended one.

Besides, you’ll need thermal layers for the upper and lower body. You should include a beanie, neck buff, and woollen gloves to keep your head, ears, and fingers warm.

The day hike at lower altitudes often gets warmer on sunny days. Thus, with thin layering from the inside (leggings), you can also wear half pants. If you want to avoid carrying half pants, you can still buy trekking pants that can be converted into half pants.

medium-lightweight backpack will be sufficient for you. However, if you’re carrying additional gear, you’ll get a trekking porter to help you carry your backpacks throughout the trek.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek in October- Cons

Even the most beautiful time of the year can be unpleasant for some, not with the weather but with a crowd of trekkers. For some, the crowd-filled tea houses can be noisy. And some may not get desired accommodation even after paying the proper trek fee.

There are a few drawbacks to October being the best time, and every trekker planning the Annapurna Base Camp Trek in October.

Crowded Annapurna Base Camp Trek Route

With October’s finest weather, a record number of trekkers plan to take this trek. As a result, the trekking route gets crowded. And mostly, you must stop, give way to returning trekkers, and resume the walk again.

With more trekkers en route, often, you’ll get bored. For many, trekking is a way to immerse oneself in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. And with crowds, those expecting a peaceful hike find it an unpleasant time.

Thus, for a peaceful trekker, the crowded Annapurna Base Camp Trek in October isn’t ideal. For them, the off-beat treks like the Tsho Rolpa Trek or Manaslu Circuit Trek can be a perfect fit.

These are the best treks with fewer trekkers and adventurous off-beat routes. Unlike the established routes of the Annapurna and Everest region, the Tsho Rolpa and Manaslu Circuit Trek Route sees fewer trekkers, not more than 2000 yearly. It’s an ideal mix of serene nature, elegant landscapes, beautiful settlements, rivers, glaciers, and glacial lakes.

Difficulty getting an accommodation

With a limited number of tea houses and ever-increasing trekkers each year, October’s highest number fills almost every room. And in some cases, sleeping in the dining hall remains the last option.

Should you trek with an agency like us, we’ll have your room booked at the tea houses. But if you’re a solo trekker in October, you may not get the rooms you prefer, for example, a single private room. And even if you get one, you have to share it with 2-3 other trekkers.

Thus, almost every tea house gets filled with trekkers in October. In recent years, multiple tea houses have been made at the Annapurna Base Camp site and lower places like Bamboo, Dovan, and Jhinu to meet the demand.
