Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary 10 days

After breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara, you'll take a taxi to the jeep stand to reach Hari Chowk. However, if you're group trekking, you'll get a private jeep transfer from the hotel to Birethanti.

You'll drive along the beautiful panorama of the Annapurna Mountains over a black-topped highway. The drive to Birethanti takes 1.5 hours. At Birethanti, you'll get off the Jeep and prepare to trek to Ulleri. In the meantime, your trekking guide verifies your Annapurna Base Camp Trek Permits.

Starting the trek from Birethanti, you'll walk along the alleys for 10 minutes. After that, you'll trek along the road to Hile. You'll trek along beautiful hamlets, terraces, waterfalls, and jungles.

At Hile, you'll stop for lunch.

From Hile, you'll trek to Tikhedhunga. With a suspension bridge crossing, you'll start ascending to Ulleri. The uphill ascent on the stone-paved trail takes almost an hour.

In Ulleri, you'll settle in at a lodge for overnight accommodations.

With an excellent breakfast at the lodge in Ulleri, you'll start a five-hour walk to Ghorepani. It's one of the short-day hikes on this trip.

You will stroll through some of Ulleri's traditional and most popular tea houses. Once you reach the summit of this hamlet, the route opens up for some flat terrain. You'll come across two beautiful waterfalls and streams. The gradual ascent then takes you to Nangethanti. This place is an amazing spot to stop for tea and rehydration.

Since it's a short day walk, you'll trek to Ghorepani for lunch.

From Nangethanti, the stone-paved route continues through the rhododendron forest. Rustling winds and chirping birds accompany you as you walk to lower Ghorepani, where you'll stop for permit verification.

A further ten-minute walk takes you to upper Ghorepani, where you'll settle in at a lodge.

At 4:30 am, you'll start the hike to Poon Hill, a vantage point atop Ghorepani. Viewing the sunrise over the Annapurna Mountains from Poon Hill is the best experience you'll ever get.

After witnessing the sunrise from Poon Hill, you will return to the lodge for breakfast.

With breakfast, you'll prepare for the 7-hour serene and scenic walk to Chuile.

Right after leaving Ghorepani, you'll start ascending to the hilltop on stone-paved stairs. From there, you'll descend for 30 minutes to Deurali. Here, you'll stop for tea and rehydration.

Beyond Deurali, the area is a direct descendant of Banthati. You'll encounter rhododendron forests and dancing waterfalls. Here, you'll stop for lunch.

After lunch, you'll descend to Phedi, cross a bridge, and start ascending to Tadapani. The towering hills, cascading river, and serenity inbound leave you in awe. The uphill walk to Tadapani from Phedi is almost an hour.

From Tadapani, it's a complete 45 minutes downhill to Chuile.

You'll settle in at the Rainbow Lodge in Chuile for the night.

After breakfast at the tea house in Chuile, you'll start the trek to Upper Sinuwa via Gurjung and Chhomrong.

Leaving Chuile, you'll descend for an hour to a river, cross a suspension bridge, and climb to Gurjung. It's a beautiful hamlet with a few tea houses, so it's best to stop for tea and rehydration.

Two hours further from Gurjung is Chhomrong, where you'll stop for lunch. The route to Chhomrong is gradual and fairly straightforward.

With lunch at a tea house in Chhomrong, you'll descend an entire hill to a river. You'll cross a suspension bridge and ascend to Lower Sinuwa. After 40 minutes of further ascent, you reach Upper Sinuwa.

Overnight accommodation at Upper Sinuwa will be at the Real Sinuwa Guest House.

In Upper Sinuwa, you'll wake up with a panoramic view of three beautiful mountains: Annapurna III, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli. Breakfast will take place at 8 a.m.

After leaving the tea house, you'll trek through the oak forest. En route, you'll encounter some streams and waterfalls. You'll descend for 30 minutes, and in total, after two hours of leaving Upper Sinuwa, you'll reach Bamboo.

A one-hour trek from Bamboo takes you to Dovan. En route, you'll cross a few wooden bridges over streams.

The Himalaya is your lunch stop after an hour's trek from Dovan.

Post-lunch, you'll climb to a cave, descend for 10 minutes, cross a rushing stream, and reach Deurali.

You'll spend the night at a tea house in Deurali.

After breakfast at the tea house in Deurali, you'll start the trek to Annapurna Base Camp.

A one-hour trek from Deurali takes you to Machhapuchhre Base Camp. You will trek past landslide zones, pasture land, and along the banks of the Modi River with few ascents.

From Machhapuchhre Base Camp, you'll ascend for an hour and then take a gradual ascent to Annapurna Base Camp. After a photoshoot at the base camp's landmark board, you'll trek for 5 minutes to the tea house in the base camp.

You'll have lunch, dinner, and overnight accommodation at the tea house in Annapurna Base Camp.

For the sunrise view over the Annapurna Mountains, you'll wake up at 5:30 and hike to the viewpoint in the base camp. The sunrise over Annapurna is the highlight of this trek, which you shouldn't miss.

You'll then eat breakfast at the tea house and prepare to return to Bamboo. Retracing the same route back, you'll trek to Deurali, the Himalaya, and Dovan. You'll have lunch in the Himalaya.

Spend the night at the finest tea house in Bamboo.

After breakfast at the tea house in Bamboo at 8 a.m., you'll prepare to trek to Jhinu Danda.

Leaving Bamboo, you'll trek for two hours to Upper Sinuwa. From Upper Sinuwa, you'll descend to Lower Sinuwa and a river, cross a bridge, and ascend the Chhomrong.

You'll stop for lunch at the tea house in Chhomrong. From here, you'll get a wholesome view of Mt. Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli.

From Chhomrong, you'll descend for 40 minutes to Jhinu Danda. Here, you'll leave your backpacks in the tea house and trek to the hot spring pool.

You'll spend the night at a lodge in Jhinu, Danada.

To end your 10 days Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you'll take a jeep drive from Jhinu Danda to Pokhara. It's a three-hour scenic drive.

Upon reaching Pokhara, you'll get a hotel transfer. If you want a sightseeing tour around Lakeside, you can ask for your trekking guide.

Meals and Accommodation

For 10 days Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill, you’ll get 10 breakfasts, 10 lunches, and 9 dinners (+1 farewell dinner in Kathmandu or Pokhara). Every meal you’ll get throughout the trek will be hygienic, dietary restriction-friendly, and tasty. Plus, you’ll get expansive meal options for each course.

Accommodation in Pokhara will be at a three-star hotel (one night). On the trek, you’ll get twin-sharing rooms with or without attached bathrooms. You’ll get clean blankets, pillows, and a spacious room for accommodation. But at most places, you’ve got to use a common toilet that is clean and properly sanitised.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Permits

Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) is a special permit you’ll need for the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. This permit can be obtained from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Once you have paid the Annapurna Base Camp Trek Cost to us, we will purchase the ACAP Permit for you. You don’t have to pay additional fees for the permits. Also, we’ll purchase all necessary government paperwork and tax-related items.

Travel Insurance

Once you decide to join us for the 10 days Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill, you must provide proof of your travel insurance. Without travel insurance, we may exclude you from the trek for safety reasons.

When you get altitude sickness or severe injuries on this trek, you’ll need a helicopter evacuation. You’ll need travel insurance to ensure a helicopter on time. Otherwise, you run the risk of having to pay a substantial rescue fee. Furthermore, if you don’t have travel insurance that includes helicopter coverage, the helicopter will hesitate to fly.

Travel insurance serves other purposes, too. If you lose or damage your gear during the trek, you can claim the losses with travel insurance. Moreover, to compensate for your international delays, minor injuries, medication bills, and hospitalisation costs in Nepal, travel insurance is a must.

Transportation during the trek

Your ten-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill starts with a tourist bus drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you’ll get a shared or private jeep ride to Birethanti and Jhinu-Pokhara. Once you reach Pokhara, the trek ends.

However, if you want an airport pickup upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ve got to pay an additional USD 35. Likewise, if you want to take the flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara instead of the bus, you’ll have to pay an additional USD 110.

Trek Bookings and Cancellations Policy

We ask for 30% of the total trek cost as a booking confirmation fee. And once you pay this amount, we'll allocate a spot for you in a group. And if you're solo, we'll allocate a trek guide on your preferred date.

You can pay the rest of the trek amount after coming to Nepal. We accept USD/EUR and Nepali rupees.

We'll send you our bank account details to make the advance payment.

You must abide by our cancellation policy if you want to cancel the trek.

-  If you cancel the trek before a month of trek, you'll get a 50% refund of your advance payment.

-  If you cancel the trek before a week of the trek, you'll get 25% of your advance payment on refund.

-  If you cancel the trek for personal reasons after a few days of starting it, you won't get a refund.

However, we suggest you exchange dollars for Nepali currency to pay for your expenses on the trek. The expensesinclude tea/coffee, soft drinks, local site entry fees, snacks, and tips for the trek guide and porter.

Arrival and Visa

If you want an airport pickup, we'll send our representative to pick you up at the airport. Our representative will be waiting for you with a name card for ease identification. Since this trek package does not include airport pickup, you will need to pay an additional USD 35 for both airport and hotel transfers.

Transportation

We use an air-conditioned tourist bus with sofa seats for the Kathmandu to Pokhara transfer. The tourist bus offers the utmost comfort for a 7-hour drive.

Also, we provide a coaster for Kathmandu to Pokhara transfers.

To start the trek, you'll take a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Pokhara to Birethanti.

Usually, the type of vehicle varies depending on the number of trekkers in the group. For example, if the group includes 5–6 trekkers, we'll provide you with a private jeep transfer. However, if your group is smaller, we can arrange a shared Jeep ride for you. Likewise, while returning from Jhinu Danda, you'll get a shared jeep to Pokhara.

Accommodation

We can't guarantee a private room during the busy season (Autumn and Spring). However, we'll try our best to get you a private room at the tea houses during the trek.

Note: The private rooms are often expensive. Hence, you've got to pay an additional $10 for the private room accommodation.

Yes. Every tea house in Annapurna Sanctuary provides wifi, a hot water system, and electricity for trekkers. However, to consume these, you must pay Rs. 300–500.

During the season, with fully occupied tea houses, you may not get high-speed wifi. However, it'll be sufficient to send a message back home or upload a cool photo of Annapurna Mountain.

In a few places, you'll get a solar-heated hot water shower. However, most tea houses provide gas-heated hot water showers with proper air ventilation.

Trekkers pay Rs. 250–300 for a battery recharge. Except at Annapurna Base Camp, all places have electricity. Hence, we recommend that you bring a power bank to recharge your devices.

Usually, the tea houses provide twin sharing rooms with warm mattresses, blankets, and pillows. If you need a warm overnight sleep at the base camp, we suggest you bring a sleeping bag. But if you want to rent one, we'll provide it for $35.

Weather and Temperature

The weather and temperature at Annapurna Base Camp depend on the time you trek. However, you can expect clear weather, gentle temperatures, rain-free days, and beautiful mountain scenery.

Usually, the weather clears during the morning and evening at these places throughout the year. Even during the rainy summer days, you'll get clear weather in the morning.

Autumn and Spring months are the busiest time for Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill. And in these months, the weather remains 100% clear with a crystal clear viewing experience.

Particularly, in Autumn and Winter, the base camp and high altitudes remain cold to freezing. Hence, a sleeping bag is highly recommended for extra warmth overnight at the base camp and some higher altitude places. However, while trekking here in Spring and Summer, there's no need to bring it.

We recommend you bring a sleeping bag with a -20˚C rating. If you want to rent it, we provide it for USD 35 for the trek.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Preparations

Despite being a low-altitude trekking, you'll still trek for hours each day for 10 days. On top, you'll spend overnight at the base camp at 4,130 meters.

Hence, to conquer Annapurna Base Camp via Poon Hill, there are certain age restrictions. Additionally, trekkers with health issues aren't recommended to join this trek.

But we will provide you with the contact details of your guide (WhatsApp or social media) once you book this trek with us.

There are a few shortest days, like Ulleri to Ghorepani and Sinuwa to Jhinu. The long walking days include the trek from Ghorepani to Chuile, Chuile to Upper Sinuwa, and Annapurna Base Camp to Upper Sinuwa.

You must be physically fit to trek to Annapurna Sanctuary for 10 days, including the base camp. The primary reason for being fit is to complete the trek successfully without fatigue and physical issues.

Walking for ten days builds fatigue. On top, you'll climb to the altitudes and descend to the valley. With uneven trekking, your body tires a lot. However, with proper physical fitness, you can endure the fatigue.

Physical fitness supports efficient breathing, endurance strengths, and even avoiding altitude sickness.

Hence, you must be physically fit to complete this trek successfully.

Usually, the drinking water you'll get on the trek is safe. If you prefer drinking cold water, you'll get filtered water at the tea houses. Also, if you love drinking warm water, you can get it for Rs. 200-300 per liter.

We recommend you bring water purification tablets, oral rehydration salts, and a water bottle with an in-built filter.

No. You'll not get altitude sickness during the ten days of Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill.

While trekking to Ghorepani and Poon Hill, you'll trek to 3,200 meters which provides proper acclimatization. Moreover, you'll descend to Chhomrong and then gradually trek to Annapurna Base Camp.

During these six days, you'll gain proper acclimatization. Hence, you'll not get altitude sickness on the trek.

If you get altitude sickness, the first thing will be your trek guide assessing the situation. If you're experiencing minor symptoms, you may continue the trek after a good rest.

However, if the symptoms worsen, you'll abort the trek and return to Pokhara/Kathmandu. Also, after assessing the situation, your descent will be on the horse/helicopter.

Note: We'll manage the rescue on time. However, you must pay for the helicopter/horse rescue.

Yes. You can extend the trek itinerary if you're on the Annapurna Base Camp Solo Trek. However, extending the itinerary for individual trekkers in a group is challenging (logistically and cost). With consultation with your trek guide, we'll make all necessary arrangements to extend your itinerary.

For example, you can stay at the base camp for an additional day if the weather becomes poor for mountain viewing. Also, extending the itinerary is best if you feel tired or need more days for acclimatization.

Note: The itinerary extension increases the overall trek cost.

Yes. You'll be in touch with our manager via WhatsApp or phone call during the trek. You'll get in touch on instances like safety concerns, altitude sickness, and other emergencies. However, on a regular day, you'll have a trek guide with whom you can converse.
