Our representative will be at the airport to welcome you in Kathmandu. Following, you’ll have a hotel transfer in a private vehicle or a taxi. You’ll be accommodated in a boutique hotel in Kathmandu, which is included in the trek package.

After the check-ins at the hotel, you’ll have a trek briefing session. Our manager or a trek guide will brief you on various elements of the trek, from safety, trek gear, and the itinerary plan. This ensures that everything’s in place perfectly before starting the trek.

Most trekkers prefer buying some trekking gear at the trek gear shops in Thamel. If you’re planning the same, our guide will assist you in buying/renting some trekking gear.

Where You’ll Stay

Your Langtang Gosaikunda Trek includes a variety of accommodations. Here’s how your accommodations during this tour are distributed.

  • A boutique hotel with a twin room in Kathmandu for a night
  • Tea houses and lodges on the trek for 8 nights

The trek package includes one night’s stay at the boutique hotel in Kathmandu. This accommodation gives you a much-needed rest and comfort after a long international flight and arrival.

On the trek are the tea houses where you’ll stay. At some places, you’ll get a twin room with an attached bathroom, and at some, a twin room with a shared toilet.

The tea houses in Langtang are well-established and provide amazing hospitality. Particularly, in Langtang Village, Kyanjin Gompa, and Thulo Syabru, you’ll get a twin room with an attached bathroom. However, you’ll get a decent room at Lama Hotel and Lauribinayak. Nevertheless, the tea houses provide comfortable overnight accommodations.

Meals on the Go

Here’s a breakdown of the meals you’ll get during these 9 days of the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek.

  • Breakfast is provided at your Kathmandu accommodation
  • 9 breakfasts, 9 lunches, and 8 dinners at the tea houses/lodges on the trek

Each main course includes a meal of choice from the menu. You’ll get a meal menu at the tea houses for every meal. Also, you’ll get a warm drink with each meal, included in the trek cost.

What the trek package doesn’t include is:

  • Lunch & dinner(s) during your Kathmandu stay
  • Additional meals on the trek (unless specified)

The tea houses provide fresh, hygienic, and nutritious meals you can count on. Plus, you’ll have vegetarian options too, which is great for vegetarian trekkers.

Transportation

The transportation services included in the 9-day Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake package are:

  • Airport pickup on arrivals in Kathmandu
  • Kathmandu-Syabrubesi on a bus/jeep/van

On your arrival, our representative will pick you up from the Kathmandu airport and transfer you to the hotel. This provides a hassle-free arrival and transfer experience.

The trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. There are a few options for taking a bus, a jeep, or a van. Jeep and Van are the most preferred ones as they’re more comfortable and reliable. The bus ride to Syarbubesi is great, but it takes a few hours longer than the jeep and van.

Also, from the hotel to the bus stand, you’ll get a taxi ride. And so will you on your return from the trek, from the bus stand to the hotel in the city.

Trek Porters and Luggage Weight Limit

To make you walk more comfortably, we’ll provide you with a trek porter throughout the 9 days. Trek porters will carry the main backpack, leaving you with a lighter daypack, ensuring comfortable walking.

We provide one porter among two trekkers. This way, two trekkers can carry 10-12 kg of backpack each. However, for additional weights, you must pay for the porter’s add-ons. We practice ethical porter work, allowing them to carry decent weight, keeping them safe and comfortable on the trek.

Since the trek porters are shared among two trekkers, solo trekkers don’t get porter services. Thus, for solo trekkers, having a porter for the trek subjects them to add-ons. The number of add-ons depends on the backpack weight.

Nepal Travel Essential

Visa on Arrivals

Every traveller to Nepal must get a Nepali tourist visa. The good part, most travellers can obtain a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport. The visa durations are 15, 30, and 90 days with different visa fees. For the Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek, a 15-day visa is perfect. However, if you want to explore Nepal for a bit more, we advise you to buy a 30-day or 90-day visa.

If you prefer to learn about the visa on arrival in detail, we suggest you visit this webpage.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a must-buy if you’re planning to visit Nepal and trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda Lake. These two destinations are high-altitude areas, and trekking here can put you at risk of altitude sickness, injuries, and other issues. And in such instances, for quick descent and health treatment, you’ll need a helicopter to fly back to Kathmandu.

We recommend that you have a comprehensive travel insurance policy including helicopter rescue. The highest elevation on this trek is Kyanjin and Gosaikunda, between 4,300 and 4,700 meters. Hence, you must get travel insurance with helicopter rescue coverage up to 5000 meters altitude.

We suggest that you provide us with proof of your travel insurance policy before embarking on the trek.

Currency Exchange & Personal Expenses

The personal expenses on the trek aren’t included in the trek cost. So, to pay for these, you’ll need Nepali rupees. Hence, before the trek, we suggest that you exchange your currency for Nepali rupees. The most preferred currencies in Nepal are USD, EURO, CAD, and AUD. Thus, you’re advised to exchange your currency to USD before travelling to Nepal.

The tea houses on the trek don’t accept credit cards or any international digital payments. Thus, Nepali rupees are the ones that work best everywhere.

The total amount for your 9-day trek can range between USD 100 and 150, converted to Nepali rupees.

Just to let you know, the personal expenses include, but are not limited to:

  • Hot shower
  • Hot drinking water
  • Use of wifi and internet services
  • Additional drinks and meals, including hot and cold
  • Tips to the trek guides and porters

Langtang Trek Permits

To trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda, you’ll need a trek permit. The Langtang National Park Entry Permit allows you to trek in the region for a designated period.

Previously, trekkers had to purchase a TIMS card too. However, in recent years, the mandatory requirement for this card has been eased, and trekkers no longer require this permit.

It’s available at the national park checkpost in Dhunche. Along the way, your trek guide checks in and out at various checkposts.

The trek permit is included in the trek cost. So, you don’t need to pay an extra amount for the permit.

If you’re a solo trekker, check out our Langtang Trek Permit Blog to learn more about the permits.

Best Time for Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek

Spring, Autumn, and Winter months are the best time for Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. The crystal-clear weather, snow-filled mountains, and rain-free days make these months absolute for the trek. In Winter, it snows and gets cold. But, on a clear weather day in Winter, Langtang becomes a snow wonderland.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the weather and temperature of each month in Langtang and Gosaikunda.

Autumn (September, October, and November)

September gets rainy at times with leeches at lower elevations. However, this post-monsoon month blesses trekkers with lush and green landscapes. The temperature remains warm with a daytime temperature of 13-14˚C. The nighttime temperature averages around 0-3˚C.

October is a rain-free month. Moreover, the temperature starts decreasing. The daytime temperature averages 10˚C, and the nighttime temperature averages to -3˚C. Clear skies, stable weather, and utmost visibility are the perks of trekking to Langtang in October. Moreover, with the most pleasing weather, the peak trekking season begins. Expect a crowd of trekkers in October.

November gets cold in the morning and night. The daytime temperature feels like 5-6˚C, and the nighttime temperature is less than -10˚C. The dry weather provides the utmost visibility. The trekkers crowd decreases past mid-November.

Spring (March, April, and May)

Mornings and evenings in March are cold with temperatures averaging -5 to -2˚C. The daytime temperature still feels cold but averages to 8-10˚C. With late snowfall in recent years, you can expect snowfall in Langtang and Gosaikunda in March and April. Moreover, the rhododendron starts blooming at the lower elevations in the Langtang region.

You can expect some snowfall in April. The rhododendron blooms completely, and the entire mid-hill landscape becomes vibrant. The temperature rises in April as the daytime temperature averages 15-18˚C and the nighttime temperature of 2-3˚C.

May gets rainy with occasional thunderstorms. Also, with poor weather, the trekker’s flow decreases. The daytime temperature averages 18-20˚C, and the nighttime temperature averages 5-8˚C.

Winter (December, January, and February)

Winter in Langtang is cold, with snowfall typically occurring around the end of February. However, with almost zero humidity, there’ll be no clouds and foggy conditions for most of it. So, the mountain view remains intact, all day long. If you want to trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda in Winter, proper winter clothing is a must.

The average temperature at Langtang, Kyanjin, and Gosikunda remains below freezing throughout the winter. The Gosaikunda Lake and Lirung Glacier freeze, which can be an exciting sight.

Trek Difficulty and Altitude Sickness

Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake is moderately difficult. Most sections are comfortable and straightforward, with only a few steeper, more demanding sections.

The difficult sections on this trek can be:

  • Climbing Kyanjin Ri from Kyanjin Gompa
  • Lauribinayak to Gosaikunda Lake Trek

These sections are above 4,300 to 4,700 meters. Here, the oxygen level remains low. And, with low oxygen, trekkers struggle to maintain pace as they experience frequent fatigue.

Will you get altitude sickness on this trek? With our experience of guiding clients in Langtang and Gosaikunda over the years, there’s a faint risk of altitude sickness. While trekking to Langtang Valley, you’ll start the trek from a lower elevation, gradually ascending to 4,000 meters. This way, your body acclimates as you trek higher. And by the time you return to Pairo and trek to Gosaikunda, you’ll be perfectly acclimated. As a result, you won’t get altitude sickness on this trek.

Said this, some trekkers experience mild altitude sickness. And at such instances, with safety protocols in place, you’ll be completely safe.

Acclimatization

The 9-day Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake Trek isn’t an extreme elevation trek. Thus, trekkers with ideal physical fitness don’t need acclimatization stops during this trek. However, if you want an acclimatization day, it can be at Langtang Village or Kyanjin Gompa.

Starting from Syabrubesi, you’ll trek for three days to reach Kyanjin Gompa, with short day walks and adequate rest.

Langtang Valley is below 4000 meters unless you decide to climb Kyanjin Ri and Tsergo Ri. On the day you reach Kyanjn Gompa, you’ll settle in at the tea house for a day. The hike to Kyanjin Ri or Tsergo Ri will be the next morning. Also, on the day from Langtang to Kyanjin, you’ll only trek for three hours. Thus, spending an entire day at the tea house in Kyanjin provides you with adequate rest and acclimatization, should you plan to climb Tsergo Ri or Kyanjin Ri.

By the time you complete the Langtang Valley Trek and return to Thulo Syabru, your body will be well acclimated. Thus, trekking to Lauribinayak and Gosaikunda Lake won’t be an issue. You’ll complete the remaining Gosaikunda Trek without getting altitude sickness.

Transportation

Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang Valley, is accessible by car only, unless you decide to take a helicopter.

You’ll have the option of a private or shared jeep to Syabrubesi. Usually, we provide private jeeps for a group of at least 5-6 trekkers. However, for smaller groups, we prefer an on-route jeep/EV van.

The overland drive to Syabrubesi is 6-7 hours long, through terraced hills, Tamang villages, and picturesque mountain panoramas.

No. Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake is accessible by overland bus/jeep drive.

Most domestic flights in Nepal are often delayed due to poor weather conditions. Also, the domestic flights for foreigners are expensive. However, with no domestic flights involved, the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is easily accessible and affordable.

For this trek, we use local buses, private or shared jeeps, or EV vans. Since Syabrubesi is accessible via an overland drive, these are the available options to get there.

The priority ones are the jeeps and EV vans. Based on the group size and preferences, we mostly opt for the private or shared jeeps.

For a group of at least five trekkers, we provide a two-way private jeep from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. However, for smaller groups, we use on-route shared jeeps or EV vans, based on seasonal availability.

For smaller groups who want to take a private jeep to Syabrubesi, subject to add-ons. The detailed add-ons amount will be provided when you book the trip.

You’ll get an airport pickup upon your arrival in Kathmandu. It is a complimentary service from us to make your arrivals hassle-free and comfortable.

We don’t provide airport drop-off. However, if you prefer us to arrange the airport drop-off, we’d be more than happy. You’ll be notified about the add-ons required for airport drop-off while booking this trek.

To get to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu, an overland jeep drive is a must. Reaching Syabrubesi doesn’t require any domestic flights.

So, if the highway to Syabrubesi gets blocked, there’s no option but to wait for road clearance. The Road and Transport Department, along with the Nepal Army, usually clears obstructions within a few hours. However, on bigger landslides, it could take some days too.

In such instances, there’ll be no option but to wait.

Considering such events, we strongly recommend you add at least 1-2 buffer days to the travel plans.

Yes. Your overland jeep drive to/from Kathmandu-Syabrubesi is very safe.

First, we use the most reliable jeeps from our trusted vehicle service providers in Kathmandu. Also, the jeeps we use for shared rides are well-maintained and driven by experienced drivers.

Moreover, the highway to Syabrubesi is very good, with blacktopped and concrete road blocks. You’ll have a comfortable overland experience along the way. Also, the landslide zones are fully secured to prevent hazards.

Meals & Accommodation

You’ll stay at the tea houses and lodges during the 9-day Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek. The tea houses on the trek provide basic to decent accommodation facilities.

For instance, the lodges and tea houses in Syabrubesi, Langtang, Kyanjin, and Thulo Syabru are amazing. They provide a twin room with an attached bathroom. However, at places like Lama Hotel, Lauribinayak, and Deurali, the tea houses provide basic accommodation.

You’ll get a twin bedroom with/without an attached bathroom. Usually, the tea houses provide neat and clean rooms with warm beds and blankets.

Hot showers are available at every tea house in Langtang Valley, but not in the Gosaikunda region. However, upon request, the tea house in the Gosaikunda region provides boiled water in a bucket.

While some tea houses use gas-heated showers, most lodges in Langtang and Kyanjin use solar-heated showers. Moreover, some tea houses even provide an attached bathroom with a heated water shower. Upon availability, we’ll provide you with a twin room in Langtang and Kaynjin with add-ons.

We urge you to double-check the proper ventilation before taking a hot shower. Improper ventilation traps steam, causes hypoxia, and often leads to loss of consciousness and severe issues.

Attached toilets are available at most tea houses on the trek. Except at Lama Hotel, Lauribinayak, and Deurali, tea houses at the other overnight stopping places provide attached toilets. The best lodges are in Syabrubesi, Langtang, Kyanjin, and Thulo Syabru.

You’ll find a twin bedroom at every tea house with an attached toilet, running water, and soap.

Please note that not all rooms at the tea houses have attached toilets. Hence, the possibility of you getting an attached toilet depends on seasonal availability. An early trek booking guarantees the availability of a room with an attached toilet.

Almost every tea house on Langtang and Gosaikunda, except at Lama Hotel, provides WiFi to the trekkers at a certain fee or free.

Most regions in the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek route have access to hydroelectricity. And with this, there’s a proper internet connection, in Kyanjin at 3,860 meters and Gosaikunda at 4,380 meters.

Lama Hotel, due to Langtang National Park restrictions, lacks electricity, and so does the WiFi. So, you won’t have access to wifi or mobile networks for two nights while staying at Lama Hotel.

Absolutely. Tea houses in the Langtang and Gosaikunda region provide electricity recharge services to every trekker.

Langtang and Kyanjin have access to hydroelectricity. Unlike unreliable solar power, the electricity recharge at the tea houses is available 24/7. The charging stations, however, will only be at the dining hall. So, you’re required to charge all the electronic devices before going to bed.

Tea houses charge a certain fee for electricity recharge. Thus, for every electricity recharge service used, you must pay for it.

Tea houses in the Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek serve hygienic, fresh, and nutritious meals to trekkers.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are three meals you’ll get each day for 9 days.

Breakfast meals include toast, local bread, chapati, curry, potatoes, eggs, tea, and coffee. Muesli with yak yogurt is a popular breakfast in Langtang in May and throughout the summer.

Lunch and dinner meals include Dal Bhat, a staple of the Nepali diet, a complete meal while trekking. Trekkers love eating Dal Bhat to fuel the adventure. Dumplings, porridge, pizza, Sherpa stew, noodles, chapati, and curry are popular lunch meals.

The mules and helicopter transport fresh vegetables and supplies to the tea houses frequently during the trekking season. Thus, with fresh supplies, tea houses serve amazing meals throughout the trekking season.

Moreover, the local bakeries in Thangshyap and Kyanjin sell amazing baked goods. The coffee shop at Kyanjin is the trekkers’ favourite.

Absolutely.

Being a vegetarian isn’t an issue, but a great way to trek in the Himalayas. Trekkers often eat meat at higher elevations and end up getting bloating and digestive issues.

As a vegetarian, you’ll have some amazing meal choices on the menu. Nepali Dal Bhat, chapati with curry, noodles with yak cheese (seasonal), and Sherpa stew are some delicious vegetarian meals.

Yes. Every tea house in Langtang Valley and the Gosaikunda region provides safe drinking water.

For cold water, tea houses provide the running water. Most trekkers prefer drinking cold water using water purification tablets. Also, for running water, trekkers don’t need to pay.

However, for boiled and bottled mineral water, tea houses charge some amount. Boiled water is less expensive than bottled mineral water.

We recommend drinking boiled water (if you prefer not to use water purification tablets) or mineral water to avoid any water-related issues during the trek. Cold water from a running tap is completely safe to drink. However, with its enriched minerals, trekkers often experience some discomfort after drinking it.

Trek Preparation & Fitness

This trek doesn’t require an athletic level of fitness. However, you must build a sound fitness that lets you trek for 6-7 hours, trekking 10-12 kilometers on average each day. The rugged high-altitude landscape with frequent climbs and downhill trek demands efficient breathing and endurance.

Hence, you must have a moderate to excellent physical fitness for a comfortable 9-day Gosaikunda and Langtang Valley Trek experience.

Not really. Your previous high-altitude trek experience would be a bonus, but it is not necessary.

Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake isn’t a demanding trek. So, alongside seasoned trekkers, this trek is an absolute for novice trekkers with decent physical fitness. Also, most trekkers on this trek are beginners.

Our experienced team of trek guides and porters makes your trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda safe, comfortable, and amazing. They set the steady pace, logistical support, and help you adapt to the altitude throughout the trek.

Read our blog on why Langtang Valley Trek is an absolute beginner trek for detailed guide.

Children over 8 years and the elderly below 65 years old, who are physically fit, can join this adventure with us.

At NepTrek Adventures, we have a strong policy on who can and can’t trek. It’s because of the trek and the health safety of everyone involved.

Travellers with chronic illness, heart and lung issues, and high blood pressure are not advised to trek to higher elevations. Even the physically fit trekkers struggle at times due to the thin air and long hours of walking.

Here’s who we advise not to trek:

– Children below 8 years and seniors above 65 years with physical issues
– Pregnant women
– A person with any form of chronic illness

For an in-depth guide, we have a blog on Why Trekking Isn’t For Everyone. Check it out to learn more about what is involved in a high altitude trek and things you must consider to be fit to embark on.

Altitude sickness is an issue some trekkers experience while trekking in higher elevations. Trekking over 3,500 meters can put you at risk of getting altitude sickness.

Said this, Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake is a safe trek, considering the elevation and trek difficulty. You’ll begin this trek from a relatively low-altitude and gradually ascend to a higher elevation. Doing this, your body acclimates as you trek higher up at a pace. Also, for the Gosaikunda Trek after Langtang, you’ll descend again to a lower elevation before ascending further. Here, the hike up sleep low gets effective, fostering proper acclimatization.

We can assure you that with our experienced team of guides and porters, you’ll be safe throughout the trek. With pre-planned logistics, itinerary, health safety, and trek plan, your adventure will be safe all along.

Physical fitness for this trek is efficient cardio and proper endurance building.

Here’s our recommended exercise for building physical fitness:

– Regular walking or hiking (with a backpack if possible)
– Running, cycling, or swimming (to build cardio)
– Trademill or stair climb to strengthen legs.

These exercises are ideal for building cardio and endurance. At higher elevations, where oxygen is less, and trekkers struggle to pace, building efficient cardio and endurance makes the trek less demanding.

We recommend that you start training for physical fitness at least two months prior to the trek’s departure.

Health and Trek Safety

Absolutely. Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake is an extremely safe and popular destination for female trekkers, solo or in a group. The people in the region are extremely welcoming and hospitable. Moreover, the trekkers en route support each other.

The trekking route to Langtang and Gosaikunda is peaceful and safe. It has trail markings, well-maintained sections, ample tea houses, and communication services. With these, a trekker must feel safe throughout the journey.

If you’re a solo female trekker planning to trek to Langtang, we advise you to trek there with an experienced guide and assisted by a porter. At NepTrek Adventures, we have some amazing female trek leaders who could be your guide for this trek.

Absolutely. NepTrek Adventures prioritizes your safety over anything throughout the trek.

Our trek crew includes experienced trek leaders and support staff. They’re experts in the Langtang region, bringing a depth of knowledge of the route, danger zones, weather patterns, altitude sickness, and health emergencies.

Our guides are wilderness first aid responders. Hence, in any situation that requires first aid or stabilization, our guides prioritize your safety at every event. Moreover, our support staff carries your heavier backpack so you trek with a lighter one and lower the risk of leg strain and fatigue.

We always communicate with our trek guides on the trek. We collect the information on your health, performance, and every situation worth knowing. During emergencies, we cooperate with the helicopter companies to facilitate rescues from higher elevations.

Thus, you’ll be on constant watch throughout the trek, which promotes your safety all along.

Likely no. Our amazing team of experienced guides and porters ensures your safe trek without suffering altitude sickness.

Here’s how.

The major steps in getting altitude sickness are random pacing, dehydration, and poor trek planning. However, at NepTrek Adventures, our trek guides set a balanced pace, remind the team of hydration and meals, and efficiently plan the trek. Moreover, our trek itinerary is designed for slow and steady ascent, which, in a way, provides acclimatization while trekking.

Trekkers often get altitude sickness due to poor physical fitness. At NepTrek, we recommend our clients build fitness with a workout for at least two months before the trek’s departure.

Another way to minimize the risk of getting altitude sickness is to take Diamox. This medicine works at higher elevations and prevents trekkers from altitude sickness. However, consultation with a physician is a must before taking this medicine.

Our trek guides and assistant guides are trained to assess the symptoms of altitude sickness and take preventive measures right away. If you get altitude sickness during the trek, here’s how our team ensures your safety.

– First, our guide will assess your symptoms and take you to the health post nearby (upon availability)

– Further assessment depends on the doctor’s report.

Usually, doctors recommend you take a day of rest at the same elevation. Doing this, your body adapts to the elevation and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.

If you’re experiencing severe altitude sickness symptoms, you’ll descend to a lower elevation. In most cases, you’ll get a helicopter evacuation from Langtang to medical facilities in Kathmandu.

Once you develop severe altitude sickness symptoms, it’ll be risky for you to ascend further. Thus, most trekker end their trek once they develop altitude sickness and return to Kathmandu and visit the hospital for treatment.

We highly suggest that you get travel insurance with helicopter rescue coverage included. During emergencies, your travel insurance becomes a ticket to get an on-time helicopter.

Yes. You must purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy including helicopter rescue.

The Langtang and Gosaikunda regions are safe for trekking. However, it’s an outdoor activity and thus, poses some risk, be it altitude sickness, injuries, or natural calamities.

The mountain region in Nepal is accessible only by helicopter. And in severe health emergencies and calamities, a helicopter is the only means to fly out to Kathmandu.

Another reason to purchase travel insurance is the cost of search and rescue. Helicopter rescue in Nepal is extremely expensive, and paying the rescue fee costs you thousands of dollars. However, having travel insurance gets you a helicopter rescue for free or at a reduced cost. Moreover, if you need medical treatment in Kathmandu, your travel insurance compensates the medical bills.

We strongly recommend that you purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy and provide us with a copy of it before the trek.

Yes. Your trek guide carries a comprehensive first aid kit for the trek. It includes basic medications, bandages, and essential first-aid supplies, particularly for trekking-related issues.

Our guides are wilderness first aid responders. They’re certified first aid responders, experienced in handling injuries during the trek. During mishaps and major issues, they’ll stabilize you until rescue comes in.

For personal use, we recommend you bring your first-aid kit on the trek. It can include personal medications and special prescriptions.

Not really. Unless your doctor clears you to embark on the trek, you shouldn’t embark on it.

At higher elevations, low oxygen often prompts altitude sickness, even for physically fit trekkers. This, for people with health issues, puts them at significant health risk.

If your doctors clear you for the trek, you can consider trekking to Langtang and Gosaikunda. For extra safety and comfort, you can customize the itinerary, add extra rest days, and acclimate.

We recommend that you let us know your medical conditions before booking the trek. This way, we’ll provide you with a tailored trek experience.

All our trek guides speak excellent English, facilitating seamless communication throughout the trek. They’ll brief you on everything, explain the culture, and introduce you to the people.

Additionally, our guides are first aid responders, sufficient to handle minor injuries and sickness throughout the trek. They prioritize your safety throughout the trek.

Yes.

You’ll be guided by an experienced and licensed trekking guide on your Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake Trek. All our trek guides are licensed by the tourism authority under the government of Nepal. Moreover, they’re first aid responders, high-altitude safety trained, and lead the group amazingly during the trek.

Licensed guides are experienced and have trekked extensively over the years. They understand the logistics, safety responsibilities, and contribute to making your trek wholesome.

Moreover, we have some amazing licensed and experienced female trek leaders. For female trekkers, we prioritize sending them with our experienced female trek guide.

Our Langtang Gosaikunda region trekking guides are well-experienced, well-guided, and have successfully completed many amazing adventures.

Most of our Langtang region guides have 3-4 years of guiding experience in the region. Our Langtang Valley trek guides possess a comprehensive understanding of the region, people, and the mountains.

The weather, elevation changes, and altitude sickness issues are associated with high-altitude treks. And here’s where our experienced trek guides come in. Their deep understanding and knowledge of the region keep you informed about the weather and elevation, and minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Our guides set a comfortable pace throughout the trek. Moreover, they follow the standard acclimatization, allowing trekkers ample rest and time to adjust to the increasing elevation.

Yes. All trekking guides and most support staff at NepTrek Adventures speak fluent English and are excellent communicators. We prioritize communication as a crucial element in making the trip informative, transparent, and insightful.

Excellent communication during the trek makes trekkers feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences, connecting with local Tamang people, and understanding the Himalayan culture.

Mostly yes. Trek porters are available in groups of two or more trekkers. However, for solo trekkers, trek porters are available on add-ons, unless specified.

The trekking route to Langtang is uneven with flats, ascents, descents, and glaciers. Walking over uneven terrain and carrying a heavy backpack at higher elevations tires trekkers quickly. Also, in most cases, trekkers often twist their ankles while walking over glaciers and uneven trails.

This risk decreases significantly once the trek porters assist trekkers with the heavy backpacks. They’re highly recommended.

Trek porters are a crucial asset of our guided treks. Particularly, on longer treks like Everest Base Camp, trek porters are best to have. They help trekkers by carrying heavy backpacks, leaving trekkers with a light daypack. Hence, with less weight on the daypack, trekkers can trek light and comfortably.

A trek porter carries up to 20 kilograms of backpack during the trek. Most trek agencies make their porter carry 30-35 kilograms. At NepTrek Adventures, we practice a responsible porter weight limit.

We assign one trek porter to two trekkers to carry a 10-12 kg backpack each. For this, we’ll provide you with a duffel bag.

Add-ons for extra weights are a must for trek porters. This ensures they can work safely and comfortably while assisting the trek guide and team.

We assign trek guides and porters based on the group size. Our professional team of assigned guides and porters ensures trek safety, logistical comfort, and guaranteed trek success.

A smaller group of 4-5 trekkers gets one trek leader and 2-3 assistant guides (porters). However, for larger groups, we assign multiple assistant guides and porters. We believe that everyone in the group deserves equal attention and support throughout the journey. Hence, for smooth trek operation, we’ll assign an adequate trek crew.

Yes. All trek guides at NepTrek Adventures are trained in wilderness first aid and high-altitude emergency response. They’re experienced enough to identify the early signs of altitude sickness and respond immediately based on the mountain situation.

The training our guides have includes first-aid treatment, altitude monitoring, communication during emergencies, and coordinating for helicopter rescue if needed. Our guides ensure that all trekkers in the group get proper support and attention to minimize the risks throughout the trek.

Tipping the trek guides and porters is a great way to appreciate and recognize their hard work and dedication in making your Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek successful. It’s a voluntary act, but it is a great part of trekking culture in Nepal.

Tipping is usually at the end of the trek, and on this trek, in Syabrubesi or Kathmandu. This action of gratitude for the team’s support reflects the smooth journey. The farewell dinner at the tea house in Syabrubesi is a perfect moment to tip the guides and porters.

Regarding the amount, it’s an individual’s will. Usually, the tipping amount reflects how well you were served throughout the trek.

Backpacking & Gear

If you’re getting a trek porter for this trek, you’ll need a 30-40 litre light daypack to carry essential items. However, if you’re a solo trekker without a trek porter, you’ll need a 60-70 litre backpack to carry all the trek gear, clothes, and personal items.

We provide a trek porter for a group of two or more trekkers. However, for solo trekkers, the trek cost doesn’t include the porter and is subject to add-ons.

We’ll provide you with a waterproof duffel bag in which you can store your trek gear and clothes. The trek porter carries this throughout the trek, keeping everything in it safe and sound.

Yes. The trek porter carries most of the main backpack so that you can trek comfortably with a lighter daypack.

The 9-day Gosaikunda and Langtang Valley Trek requires a decent amount of clothes and trek gear. Carrying a heavy backpack at higher elevations often results in severe fatigue and leg strain. However, with Porter assisting, you’ll be able to trek comfortably.

Another reason why you need a porter on the trek is to enjoy the journey. You can focus on the panoramas, photography, and your comfort.

Said this, carrying a backpack and trekking, if you can, is very adventurous.

The clothing to bring on the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek depends on when you want to trek. If you’re planning for Summer, you don’t need much warmer clothes. However, in early Spring and late Autumn, it gets cold and requires warmer clothes. And if you plan to trek to Langtang Gosaikunda in Winter, you’ll need proper winter gear.

In general, here’s an overview of trekking gear and clothes you’ll need for this trek.

– Base Layers: Moisture-wicking thermals and t-shirts
– Insulating layer: Warm Fleece or down jacket
– Outer Layer: Soft shell, windproof, and waterproof jackets and trekking pants
– A few pairs of trekking pants, shorts, sleeves, for various terrains
– Sunglasses, hat, beanie, gloves, scarf, sun protection cream, moisturizers, etc.
– Moisture-wicking trekking socks and gaiters
– Sleeping bag (highly recommended)

We’ll provide you with comprehensive clothes and backpacking gear once you book this trek with us.

The higher elevations of Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake Trek have a varied, rugged landscape. And to trek over the rugged terrain for multiple days requires an excellent trekking boot. Premium trekking boots are the best while trekking in Nepal. Despite the premium trekking boots being expensive, they provide great comfort.

Scarpa, La Sportiva, Lowe Alpine, Salomon, Adidas, and North Face have some amazing trekking boots. They’re sturdy, reliable, and provide great comfort. Moreover, these boots give breathing space for your feet, preventing blisters.

Please use your boots for at least a few days before using them on the trek. A broken-in trekking boot makes your every step perfect.

A sleeping bag rated to -20˚C is best and highly recommended for the Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek.

During peak trekking season, tea houses get flooded with trekkers and guides. For accommodation, the tea houses provide one blanket per person. And, at higher elevations, one blanket feels too cold. Hence, for additional warmth, we recommend a sleeping bag for the trek.

Unlike in the West, the rooms at the tea houses in Nepal aren’t heated. Hence, a sleeping bag is the only gear that provides additional warmth while sleeping.

If you have a sleeping bag, you can bring it for the trek. And if not, you can rent warm sleeping bags at the trekking gear shop in Thamel at affordable rates.

Absolutely. There are some amazing trekking gears shop which provide mint-condition gears in rent. Plus, the service charge they ask is very affordable.

Here’s what we think is ideal to rent in Kathmandu:

– Sleeping bag

Weather, Temperature, and Best Time

If you’re planning for the Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek, Spring and Autumn are the two absolute times. The weather during these months remains absolutely best for trekking.

Spring months are from March to May. These months are popular for their amazing mountain views, gentle temperatures, clear skies, and occasional snowfall (typically in early March). Moreover, the lower elevations are adorned with rhododendron blossoms and fresh green forests.

Autumn months are the best time of the year for trekking. The crisp weather and temperature offer excellent mountain views. Moreover, the rain-free days in October and November allow unobstructed trekking.

Winter months are cold but scenic. December and January are popular months for trekking to Langtang and Gosaikunda. However, proper winter gear and clothing are highly recommended.

Most trekkers hike to Langtang and Gosaikunda Lake in Spring and Autumn. These seasons offer stable weather, remarkable mountain panoramas, and optimal trekking experiences.

The temperature in Spring and Autumn doesn’t fluctuate due to the stable weather conditions.

The beginning of Spring and late Autumn months are cold with an average temperature below freezing. Early Spring is often snowy at higher elevations. However, the later Spring and early Autumn months are warmer with occasional rainfall.

Mornings and evenings at higher elevations are usually chillier throughout the year. However, the walk gets warmer with sunrise, even when the temperature drops near freezing.

Summer months are warmer, even at higher elevations. The alpine meadows become one of a kind during rainy months.

Winter months are cold and freezing.

Yes. Poor weather conditions often affect the trek itinerary and logistical plans. Here’s how.

An overland drive is the only way to reach Syabrubesi, the starting point for the Langtang and Gosaikunda Lake Trek. The highway to Syabrubesi passes through the terraced hills, which are prone to landslides in the rainy season.

Landslides often cause traffic delays, prompting hours of waiting for the debris to be cleared.

Another issue with the weather is heavy rainfall or a snowstorm. We don’t encourage you to continue trekking during severe weather conditions. Hence, in these instances, we stop at tea houses until the weather clears.

The route between Pairo and Lama Hotel often gets landslides in early September. In such instances, trekkers are rerouted via Sherpa Gaon while ascending and returning.

Hence, we recommend that you include 1-2 buffer days in Nepal travel plans, considering the possible weather delays.

Yes. Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake is doable in the summer and winter months. However, a proper trek plan with buffer days is required to cope with weather delays, be it rain or snow.

Summer is actually a great time to trek to higher elevations. The alpine meadows of Langtang National Park shine with summer rain. The yaks and horses graze at pastures, a true sight to behold. The clouds cover the mountains for most, but open up occasionally. If you want a peaceful trek experience with occasional mountain views, Summer is an absolute time. You can even take a few dips at Gosaikunda Lake, a must-do activity at the lake.

Winter in recent years hasn’t been snowy. So, peaceful trekkers find Winter a perfect time to trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda. If you can manage freezing cold with proper winter gear and clothes, December to February can be an ideal time for you to trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda.

We suggest that you plan this 9-day trek if considering embarking on summer & winter months. The weather in these months is often challenging. Hence, for your safety and expert navigation, trekking with an experienced licensed guide is highly recommended.

Langtang and Gosaikunda experience snowfall in late February and early March. At higher elevations, it snows heavily. Thus, for a safe trek, you’ll need microspikes on the boots and trekking poles.

Microspikes prevent slipping on the icy patches and snowy trails. With trekking poles, you’ll have additional support for balance and pacing. Moreover, you’ll need a poncho and a waterproof backpack cover.

Microspikes and trekking poles can be rented at the trekking gear shop in Kathmandu. Ponchos and waterproof backpack covers are available at minimal cost.

Mornings and evenings are usually clear with little or no overcast. However, it depends on when you trek.

The Summer months can get cloudy for weeks with constant rainfall. Sometimes, the weather remains crisp for weeks, even during the summer rains.

Spring days are usually clear. The fog and clouds appear later in the afternoon and vanish during the evenings. Autumn months are extremely crisp with a single cloud spot.

Winter months are dry, and thus, the weather remains clear.

We recommend a 9-day Langtang and Gosaikunda trek in April and November for the ultimate mountain views.

There are ways to prepare against the challenging mountain weather of Langtang and Gosaikunda.

First, you must plan the trek with a trekking agency for a safe and properly organized trek. Trekking agencies organize the trek with an experienced licensed trekking guide and support staff, who prioritize safety. Moreover, they handle all logistics, allowing you to trek without worrying about anything.

Second, you should bring appropriate layers and trekking gear. Different weather and temperature conditions demand different gears. Summer months demand ponchos, whereas winter months demand winter gear and microspikes.

Moreover, you must be physically and mentally prepared for the adventure. The strong wind gusts and rainfall can slow your pace. Moreover, the freezing cold and thin air test your endurance and mental agility. To overcome these, you must be physically and mentally sound, prepared to accept the challenges for the ultimate Himalayan reward.
