What to bring?

September is a warm month, more at lower elevations and less at higher elevations. The temperature at Annapurna Base Camp in September won’t be cold. Moreover, September is a rainy month with occasional rainfall throughout the month.

Foremost, the most important of many is rainproof gear. A good quality, breathable wind and rainproof GoreTex jacket is a must. Second, waterproof trekking pants are a must. However, if you prefer wearing half pants and a T-shirt, carry a good-quality raincoat.

Instead of regular trekking boots, bring waterproof trekking boots. Moreover, due to warm weather, your feet get sweaty and smelly. Hence, carry additional pairs of socks. And to keep your backpack dry, bring a rainproof backpack cover.

You don’t need to bring a sleeping bag as the temperature at higher elevations remains warm throughout September. However, you’ll need a down jacket for 2-3 days when you’ll be at the higher elevations. Thermal and fleece are also a must.

Trekking poles, water bottles, sunglasses, personal hygiene, and skin protection are necessary.

Kathmandu to Pokhara in September- Bus or Flight

For the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you must get to Pokhara from Kathmandu. You have the options of flight and drive. The flight time is 25 minutes, and the drive can take 8 to 10 hours.

As mentioned in this blog, September can get rainy. But there were some Septembers that went dry all month. And when it rains, the drive can turn into a nightmare with long traffic jams and the risk of a landslide. Moreover, an 8-10 hour drive on mostly off-road tracks is tiring.

On the other hand, the flight takes just 25 minutes. The best part of taking the flight is that even on a short, clear weather window, it can take off and land from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Moreover, you can fly to Pokhara late from Kathmandu, which gives you ample time to prepare for the trek and get some good rest.

Be assured, the flight can get delayed, but there’s a rare chance of flight cancellation in September.
