Elegant Annapurna Panorama
Annapurna mountains are the most elegant mountains in the Himalayas. Due to this, trekking to Annapurna Circuit is more like a walk in heaven for orophiles, people who love watching mountains. Also, the first 8000-meter-high mountain ever climbed was Annapurna I, long before the Everest summit. It’s also another reason for people to experience the close-up view of Annapurnas.
Early on this trek, you’ll get the panoramic sight of Mt. Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain. Moreover, as the trek progresses past Chame till Manang, you’ll see Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II.

In Manang, during acclimatization, you’ll hike to the vantage point. From the viewpoint, you’ll see Annapurna II, Pisang Peak, Annapurna III, and Gangapurna. Moreover, you’ll visit the beautiful Gangapurna Lake, a turquoise glacier lake.
The best mountain view appears when you climb Thorong La and trek to Muktinath. Mt. Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri appear spectacular. Moreover, returning to Pokhara, you’ll see beautiful Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, and Annapurna I.
Not to mention, the sunrise and sunset over beautiful mountains make you fall in love with them.
Moderate Trek Grade: Best for Novice Trekkers
A novice trekker, diverse elegant landscape, towering mountains, and the world’s highest mountain pass sum up Annapurna Circuit Trek. This trekking is more popular and best fit for novice trekkers who dream of stepping up to over 5,000 meters of altitude. And that too without getting altitude sickness and fatigue.
Each day on this trek, you see yourself walking 5-6 hours on average. Also, there are not many steep ascents en route, except one in Ghyaru and Thorong La Pass. Moreover, high-altitude places like Manang, Yak Kharka, and Thorong Base Camp are short-distanced. Thus, if you’re a novice trekker with decent physical fitness, ascending Ghyaru and Thorong La won’t be strenuous.
Furthermore, the altitude gain on this trek is gradual. Due to this, you’ll barely get altitude sickness. And the trekking route is well-maintained, wide, well-marked, and safe to walk on.
Thorong La Pass: Among the World’s Highest Mountain Pass
The experience of sheer determination, thrill, cold, ecstasy, and surreal panorama after stepping over 5,416 meters at Thorong La is a once-in-a-lifetime.
Thorong La sits at 5,416 meters on the lap of Damodar Himal, encircled by several elegant peaks overlooking magical Kagbeni and Muktinath. At this altitude, it’s among the highest mountain passes in the world. Conquering it on the 11th day of the Annapurna Circuit Trek is the climax and ultimate adventure.

You’ll cross Thorong La either from Thorong High Camp or Low Camp, starting the trek at 3 am. By the time you reach the top, the magical sunrise paints the glittering golden over Chulu, Damodar Himal, and Annapurnas. The warmth you’ll get after sunrise elevates the ecstasy of achieving the feat of stepping over 5,416 meters.
Thorong La Pass is one of three high passes in Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek, the most adventurous trek combined with one in Manaslu and two in the Annapurna region. The other two are Larkya La in the Manaslu Circuit Trek and Kang La in the Nar Phu Valley Trek.
Accessible and Affordable
Being popular, Annapurna Circuit Trek is the most accessible trek in Nepal. The starting and ending points, Besisahar and Pokhara, are convenient places for transportation.
To start the trek, you’ll take a drive from Kathmandu on a bus or a private vehicle. Thus, you don’t have to worry about flight delays and expensive flight tickets. Ultimately, the drive instead of flight costs this trek a few hundred dollars less. To end this trek, you’ll comfortably get a private vehicle from Jomsom to Pokhara and Kathmandu.
Second, the tea houses along the trek are the best. They provide comfortable overnight accommodations and expansive meal choices. Furthermore, every tea house lets you use the internet and electricity recharge for free. Moreover, the hot showers are cheap as well.

Best Time for Annapurna Circuit Trek
If you want to trek to the Annapurna Circuit and experience it to the fullest, we suggest you plan it in Spring and Autumn. Spring in Nepal starts in March and ends in May. Likewise, the Autumn months are September, October, and November. However, some trekkers trek until December.
During these months, the weather and temperature remain remarkably stable. The clear sky, snow-occupied mountains, lush forests, rain and snow-free days, and picturesque landscapes make your Annapurna Trek one of a kind.
Trekking in Summer and Winter has its unique aesthetics. However, heavy snowfall, freezing cold, slippery trails, an overcast and cloudy outlook, and other factors often ruin the trek.
Check out Best Time for Annapurna Circuit Trek Blog for in-depth information regarding weather and temperature throughout the season.
Trek Permits
Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) is the only permit you’ll need on Annapurna Circuit Trek. This permit costs Rs. 3000 per person. However, after paying the entire Annapurna Circuit Trek Cost, you don’t need to pay extra for the trek permit.

Since alcohol causes dehydration, it ultimately results in altitude sickness. And if you get sick, you won't be able to complete the trek, which we don't want.
What meals and drinks are best for the trek?
If you prefer a complete meal on the trek, our suggestion would be Dal Bhat at least once a day. It provides adequate carbohydrates, protein, and other essential nutrients. Precisely, Dal Bhat replenishes body fuel after a long day's walk. During lunch, you can try fried noodles, noodle soup, pizza, etc.
Regarding the drink, we recommend you drink ginger lemon honey at least a day. Ginger makes you warm and keeps you away from cough and cold. Lemon and honey act as antioxidants, cough suppressants, and Vitamin C supplements, which you'll need most on the trek.
We don't encourage you to drink caffeine as it causes dehydration and sleeplessness.
Annapurna Circuit Trek Difficulty
Can a beginner trek to Annapurna Circuit?
Absolutely. Another reason for ACT trek being popular is because it's doable even for beginners. Those who lack high-altitude trekking experience complete this trek successfully.
If you're new to trekking and want to accomplish the Annapurna Circuit Trek in 2025, you must improve your physical fitness. A beginner with decent physical fitness can conquer Thorong La Pass easily.
How long do I have to walk each day on Annapurna Circuit Trek?
You'll walk at least 8-10 kilometers each day for 6-7 hours, approximately. However, there are shorter days of just three hours and longer days of eight hours.
You'll start the trek after breakfast, and around mid-way, you'll stop for lunch. After lunch, you'll trek for at least three hours to reach the tea house.
Will I get altitude sickness during the trek?
It's so shallow that you'll get altitude sickness while trekking on the Annapurna Circuit. You'll start this trek from Dharapani, which is a low-altitude region. Thus, starting from a low altitude gives you proper acclimatization.
Moreover, you'll have a day's rest in Manang before trekking to Yak Kharka and Thorong La Pass.
However, despite all this, you may still get altitude sickness. It's because, for some, even acclimatization won't be sufficient at higher elevations to survive altitude sickness.
But, with our experienced trekking guide, you'll be safe.
Health and Safety
What happens if I get altitude sickness?
If you get altitude sickness, you'll feel headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc. When these symptoms appear, you'll stop at the nearest tea houses or descend to a lower altitude.
In most cases, stopping for a day at the same place you get altitude sickness relieves the symptoms, and you can continue the trek. However, for some, the symptoms deteriorate and cause further issues in the lungs and brain.
Thus, at such times, you'll need an emergency helicopter rescue.

Will I get a helicopter rescue during emergencies?
A helicopter evacuation is the safest way to escape the hazard during an emergency. The emergency includes severe altitude sickness, injuries, landslides, and heavy snowfall.
During these situations, a helicopter evacuation is the only way to return to Kathmandu safely.
However, you must have travel insurance with helicopter coverage to get a helicopter rescue on time. Without travel insurance, you won't get an on-time helicopter rescue. Moreover, the helicopter rescue fees are expensive, and paying from your pocket costs you several thousand dollars.
Hence, we highly recommend you get travel insurance with helicopter coverage up to 5,600 meters if you're planning Annapurna Circuit Trek in 2025.
Is travel insurance with helicopter rescue mandatory?
It'd be best to have travel insurance with helicopter rescue coverage up to 5,600 meters. During emergencies, only a helicopter rescue can save your life. Also, if you don't have travel insurance with helicopter coverage, you'll end up paying thousands of dollars in rescue.
We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance with helicopter rescue coverage.
