Day 2: Trek from Dharapani to Koto (2,620 meters, 14 km, 6 hours)
The walk starts after you finish breakfast at the tea house in Dharapani.
Most sections of the Dharapani-Koto walk are on the motor road, with occasional jeeps passing. However, it's a beautiful walk through dancing waterfalls, cascading streams, rustling wind, and a serene view of Mt. Manaslu and Lamjung Himal.
You'll trek to Bagarchap and Danaque before ascending to Timang. Here, you'll stop for a lunch break. If the weather clears, you'll have lunch with an elegant view of Lamjung Himal and Mt. Manaslu.
Tip: Try the rooftop tea houses for unobstructed views!
Three more hours from Timang sits a beautiful hamlet, Koto.
You'll settle in at a tea house for overnight accommodation.
Day 3: Trek from Koto to Pisang (3,310 meters, 16 km, 8 hours)
Koto to Pisang is a long day walk but spectacular at times. For example, the wholesome view of Sworgadwari, heaven's gate, while having lunch at Dhikur Pokhari. Moreover, you'll visit an apple orchard in Brathang.
With breakfast, you'll start the trek. Like the day before, the walk is entirely on a motor road with occasional jeeps. And sometimes, it can get dusty.
30 minutes from Koto is Chame, the district headquarters of Manang. You'll cross a bridge over Marshyangdi and trek towards Brathang.
Two hours from Chame is Brathang, a popular landmark for the largest apple orchard in South Asia. A farmhouse here sells apple pies, fresh juice, and sweet wine.
Tip: Buy a Manang Valley wine and thank us later!
1.5 hours of gradual walk from Brathang takes you to Dhikur Pokhari. Here, you'll stop for lunch.
In the backdrop of Dhikur Pokhari sits a humongous stone wall, Swargadwari, the heaven's gate. The panoramic view of this semi-arch-shaped stone wall during lunch soothes your sore calves.
Two hours more from Dhikur Pokhari, and then you'll be at the tea house in Upper Pisang. You'll settle in at a tea house in Pisang for overnight accommodation.
Tip: Sunset over Annapurna II from Upper Pisang looks spectacular!
Day 4: Trek from Pisang to Manang (3,519 meters, 16 km, 8 hours)
Pisang to Manang is also a long trek day. But, it's the day you'll see some spectacular Annapurna mountains, Annapurna II being dominant throughout.
You'll start the trek after breakfast at the tea house.
Trekking for 30 minutes from Pisang, you'll reach Green Lake. The reflection of Annapurna II, green-colored water, Buddhist prayer flags, yaks, and juniper trees around make the sightseeing spectacular.
You'll then cross a suspension bridge and ascend to Ghyaru, a hamlet. It can take two hours to climb to Ghyaru due to the steep uphill of an entire hill. However, after reaching Ghyaru, the trail becomes less steeper.
The trail gets flat as you approach Ngawal. Here, you'll stop for lunch.
Past Ngawal, the trekking route is easy. But, you'll trek once more on the motor road till Manang.
The Humde Airport on the other side of Marshyangdi, the vibrant landscape, and mountains mesmerizes you till Manang.
Two hours from Ngawal, you'll reach Bhraka, the oldest village in Nepal.
30 minutes from Baraka is Manang, today's stopping place. You'll settle in at the best available tea house in Manang.
Day 5: Acclimatization in Manang. Hike to Gangapurna Lake (3,600 meters, 2 hours)
Today, you'll rest and acclimate in Manang. The rest in Manang provides a much-needed break for your soaring muscles. Also, it prepares your body for the upcoming demanding walk to Tilicho Lake and Thorong La Pass.
After breakfast, you'll hike to Gangapurna Lake and View Point. The entire acclimatization hike can take two hours. You'll return to the tea house around lunchtime, noon.
For the rest of the day, you can take a nap, enjoy a hot shower, and laundry, or visit nearby cafes for tea/coffee.
You'll have an early dinner and go to bed by 8 pm.
Day 6: Trek from Manang to Tilicho Base Camp (4,150 meters, 20 km, 8 hours)
Trek from Manang to Tilicho Base Camp is moderate-difficult, with barely any steep climbing sections.
Leaving Manang, you'll trek for two hours to Khangsar. The motor road is where you'll be walking for the entire section. Plus, it gets very dusty when jeeps pass by.
However, after Khangsar, the motor road ends, and a proper trekking route starts.
A two-hour walk from Khangsar takes you to Sri Kharka, a lunch place.
After Sri Kharka, you'll trek for one more hour, cross a suspension bridge, and enter the Tilicho Landslide Zone.
Crossing Tilicho Landslide Zone can take 2-3 hours, depending on how well you can walk. You must be extra cautious here because of occasional stone falls in the landslide zone. The best part of the landslide zone is no climbing sections.
You'll settle in at a tea house in Tilicho Base Camp.
Day 7: Trek from Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake (4,919 meters, 4 km, 3 hours). Return to Sri Kharka (4,080 meters, 6 km, 4 hours)
With a packed breakfast, you'll leave Tilicho Base Camp for Tilicho Lake at 4 am sharp. There are two reasons for starting early:
- It'll be easy to walk before sunrise and return to the tea house by lunchtime.
- You'll get adequate time to trek back to Sri Kharka.
The route is steep uphill, almost entirely to Tilicho Lake. The most difficult part is the tiring climb of 22 turns. And, once you climb the top, the route gets more flat and easy to trek.
You'll spend one hour at the lake for sightseeing and photographs.
Tip: On return, watch out for the falling rocks on the landslide section.
The return to the tea house can take 1.5 to 2 hours.
Upon reaching the tea house, you'll have lunch.
After lunch, you'll rest for an hour before leaving for Sri Kharka.
Retracing the same route through the landslide zone, you'll ascend to the landslide exit, cross a suspension bridge, and trek to Sri Kharka.
You'll settle in at a tea house in Sri Kharka.
Day 8: Trek from Sri Kharka to Ledar (4,230 meters, 10 km, 6 hours)
Sri Kharka to Ledar is another beautiful day with picturesque mountains, landscapes, and comfortable walks.
As usual, the trek starts after the breakfast at the tea house.
45 minutes of leaving Sri Kharka, you'll be at the withered old Khangsar village. Surrounding area here is yak pastureland.
20 minutes walk from here is a beautiful photo point that overlooks mighty Annapurna, Gangapurna, and Manang Valley.
The route from here descends to a river, crosses a suspension bridge, climbs to the flat area, and trek to Yak Kharka.
Most of the walking sections are flat and easy to trek on.
You'll stop for lunch at a tea house in Yak Kharka.
Ledar is 1 hour further from Yak Kharka. The main reason for trekking to Ledar instead of staying at Yak Kharka is the number of trekkers in a season. Usually, the trekkers flood in during the trekking season, and everyone wishes to stay overnight at Yak Kharka. But, there are some good tea houses at Ledar with fewer trekkers and the picturesque sight of Annapurna mountains.
You'll settle in at a tea house with an attached toilet in Ledar for overnight accommodation.
Day 9: Trek from Ledar to Thorong Phedi (4,450 meters, 4.2 km, 3 hours)
Thorong Phedi from Ledar is within three hours' walking distance.
With breakfast, you'll leave the tea house in Ledar.
There are two routes to Thorong Phedi, one short and safe, and another more flat but in a landslide zone. You'll take the steep but safe route before crossing the suspension bridge.
You'll trek for two hours, descend to Marshyangdi, cross the suspension bridge, and ascend to Thorong Phedi.
Staying overnight at Thorong Phedi is safer than at Thorong High Camp because of the significant altitude difference.
You'll settle in at a tea house in Thorong Phedi (Low Camp) for lunch, dinner, and overnight accommodation.
Day 10: Trek from Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3,710 meters, 15 km, 7 hours) via Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters)
You'll start the trek at 3 am sharp.
First, you'll climb to Thorong High Camp from Phedi in 1.5 hours. This section is a bit of an uphill walk and thus, can tire you quickly.
The route past High Camp winds up with steep sections at times. However, for the most part, the walk is easy.
The sunrise over Damodar Himal and Chulu elevates your morning hike. It gets cold at Thorong La Pass. Thus, put on a pair of gloves and a beanie for warmth.
After trekking for 3 hours from High Camp, you'll conquer Thorong La Pass, the highest elevation on Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake. Also, it's among the highest mountain passes in the world.
A tea shop on the left corner of Thorong La Pass sells tea, coffee, and biscuits. Here, you'll have the breakfast.
The route past Thorong La Pass to Phedi is steep downhill. Moreover, the pebbles and gravel often make the route slippery.
You'll reach Phedi in two hours.
You'll trek a further one hour to Muktinath Temple.
Tip: Take 108 water spout baths at this temple for religious significance and celebrate the success of the trek.
You'll have the option of staying at the lodges in Muktinath or driving for 45 minutes to Jomsom.
Our recommendation: Drive to Jomsom. It's a popular place among the visitors in Muktinath.
Day 11: Drive from Muktinath to Tatopani (64 km, 4 hours)
If you want, you can visit the temple in the morning before breakfast.
After breakfast, you'll take a drive from Muktinath/Jomsom to Tatopani in Beni.
En route to Tatopani, you'll stop at Marpha, an apple orchard village in Mustang. It's a popular place for apple orchards and Apple brandy. Moreover, you can take an apple orchard or village tour, wear cultural attire for photographs, and more.
After the brief visit, you'll continue the drive to Tatopani via Beni Jomsom highway. With most sections blacktopped, the drive offers the utmost comfort. Plus, the drive is scenic as the road progresses through Kali Gandaki Gorge, aird landscape, and towering Annapurna mountains on either side.
You'll get transferred to the lodge in Tatopani.
Here, you'll visit the hot spring pool for a hot water dip and bath. Almost everyone who does Annapurna Circuit Trek and Tilicho Lake Trek visit the hot spring pool for a relaxing bath. The hot water in the pool repairs the microscopic damage to your muscle tissues after the demanding trek for 10 days.
It's advisable to stay for at least an hour in the hot water pool.
Tip: Grab a chilled beer and invite your trek guide and porter to tag along in the hot spring pool.
Day 12: Trek from Tatopani to Ghorepani (2,874 meters, 13.1 km, 7 hours)
It's a long and tiring day that your relaxed calves don't like. But your eyes can't resist the view along the way.
The 7-hour-long trek starts after the savory breakfast the the tea house in Tatopani. You'll head to East of Kali Gandaki River, and start the ascend.
The route to Ghorepani is through the serene pine, oak, and birch forest of Annapurna Sanctuary. You'll visit Sikha and Chitre, the beautiful hamlets. Moreover, the route progresses through the terrace farmlands and beautiful vantage points.
The trail between Tatopani and Ghorepani becomes best in March-April with multicolored rhododendron blossom.
The distance being quite long and more uphill, you'll trek for 6-7 hours today.
Upon reaching Ghorepani, you'll be transferred to the best available tea house with an attached bathroom.
Day 13: Morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210 meters, 2.9 km, 1 hour).Trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani (2,630 meters, 10.7 km, 6 hours)
You'll start the Poon Hill hike early morning, leaving Ghorepani at least 1.5 hours before sunrise.
The route to Poon Hill is a complete stone paved stairs. Thus, it'll be a comfortable walking experience throughout.
You'll spend one hour at Poon Hill, watching the sunrise over the elegant Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains.
The breakfast will be after you return to the tea house from Poon Hill.
After breakfast, you'll start the trek to Tadapani.
Leaving Ghorepani, you'll climb to Thaple Danda. From here, you'll see the Dhaulagiri mountain range for one last time.
The remaining trek till Banthanti is downhill.
You'll stop for lunch at a tea house in Banthanti.
Trekking for 45 minutes past Banthanti, you'll descend to a river and climb for 30 minutes to Tadapani.
You'll settle in for overnight accommodation at a tea house in Tadapani.
Tips: Don't miss the sunset glimpse over Machhapuchhre!
Day 14: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (2,012 meters, 6 km, 3 hours)
With breakfast at the tea house in Tadapani, you'll start the walk to Ghandruk.

Manang and Khangsar are connected by motor road. Thus, every jeep from Besisahar to Manang carries the supplies for tea houses regularly. From Khangsar, the tea houses use mules to transport goods to Tilicho Base Camp. So are the tea houses in Thorong Phedi, Yak Kharka, and Ledar.
With fresh supplies, you can have healthy and nutritious meals each day.
Can I eat meat on the trek?
You can eat meat at lower elevations. However, we don't recommend you to eat meat on the trek at higher elevations for reasons.
The primary reason is that you may get food poisoning by eating meat, as the tea houses in higher elevations don't use refrigerators.
Moreover, digesting meat at altitude can be a problem. Due to digestion problems, eat easy-to-digest meals, and if possible, avoid cheese and butter for 2-3 days at higher elevations.
Another reason is that the entire trekking region is a Buddhist area. And in Buddhist areas, the locals don't kill animals for meat. Instead, they import meat from lower elevations. Thus, it's advised not to eat meat during the trek.
Our recommendation: Avoid meat at all costs to prevent food poisoning and digestion issues, and respect the local culture.
How will my accommodation at the tea houses?
You'll be accommodated at the tea houses along the trek for 14 days. And on the 15th day, you'll get a hotel in Pokhara for accommodation.
You'll get a twin-sharing room throughout the trek. The rooms with attached toilets are subject to availability. But at most places, the tea houses provide the attached bathrooms.
You'll get a tidy room with clean and warm blankets, a pillow, and a mattress.
Are the rooms in the tea house heated?
No. You won't get heated rooms anywhere on the trek. However, in Manang, some tea houses provide heated blankets, but this is not guaranteed.
The tea houses light fire ovens in the dining halls. It is where you can get warm.
As the tea houses are not heated, you need to carry a sleeping bag with a -20˚C rating. If you have your sleeping bag, bring it. Otherwise, we'll help you to rent one in Kathmandu.
Can I get a private room for accommodation during the trek?
Yes. If you're an individual on Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake with us, you'll get a room. However, if you're trekking with the group, you'll have a private room accommodation upon availability.
Note: Private room while trekking in a group subject to USD 200 add-on. For individual trekkers, there's no add-ons.
It's best to understand that during the trekking season, the tea houses get flooded with trekkers. Thus, at such times, the tea houses get fully occupied and are left with no private rooms.
Trek Difficulty and Altitude Sickness
Can a novice trekker embark on Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake?
A physically fit novice trekker can complete this 15-day trek. However, without adequate physical fitness, this trek can get extremely difficult at times. The extreme altitude landmarks, long walking days, and unpredictable weather often challenge the trekkers.
A novice trekker can find this trek demanding at times. Precisely, the walk from Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake and Thorong Phedi to Thorong La Pass. However, for the rest of the trek, for those who can walk well, the trek should be comfortable.
How can I maintain my physical fitness for this trek?
Trekking is mostly about efficient walking and breathing. Hence, physical fitness for a trek essentially means building up strength, endurance, and efficient breathing.
Walking and hiking on the slope for at least 4-5 kilometers a day builds strength in your legs. For cardio, swimming, cycling, and jogging are the best ways.
We recommend you do these exercises for at least two months before joining the trek. The ample preparation builds your fitness and makes you ready for the trek.
Are there any acclimatization stops during the 15-day trek?
Yes. You'll get one rest day in Manang as an acclimatization stop. On this day, you'll visit Gangapurna Lake and nearby viewpoints for sightseeing and acclimatization.
The purpose of acclimating in Manang is to adapt to altitude before leaving for Tilicho Lake.
Said this, for some, one day of acclimatization won't be adequate. Thus, assessing your situation on the trek, you'll stop for acclimatization at places like Manang and Yak Kharka.
Will I get altitude sickness during the Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek?
We can't guarantee that you'll not get altitude sickness during the trek. But we assure you that we'll do our best to keep you safe and complete the trek without getting altitude sickness. You'll get adequate acclimatization, an experienced trek guide, good tea house accommodation, and an ideal trek itinerary.
Few elements play a significant role in getting altitude sickness.
First, lack of acclimatization can cause altitude sickness. That is why we've included an acclimatization in Manang. This acclimatization prepares you for the Tilicho Lake Trek. And by the time you complete Tilicho Lake Trek, your body gets well acclimated for the Thorong La Pass crossing. However, if you need additional rest days, we'll provide them accordingly.
Second, inadequate physical fitness and existing health concerns cause altitude sickness. Inefficient breathing and extreme fatigue can cause altitude sickness. Moreover, the existing health issues like blood pressure, heart disease, and lung issues cause severe altitude sickness forms like HAPE and HACE.
Moreover, inadequate diet, lack of sleep, and consumption of alcohol and caffeine (coffee, coke, etc) can result in altitude sickness.
How can I prevent myself from getting altitude sickness during the trek?
Here are some ways that help you to dodge altitude sickness on the trek. However, not guaranteed.
Acclimatization is a must. On this trek, you have one acclimatization stop in Manang. However, if you need additional rest days, it's better to acclimate extra days at Manang or in Yak Kharka.
Rehydrate more. Dehydration also causes altitude sickness. With low fluid in the body, the blood becomes thick, and oxygen transportation in cells and tissues gets impacted. Rehydration with oral salt solutions is highly recommended.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol: Caffeine and alcohol cause dehydration, which contributes to altitude sickness. Thus, you must avoid caffeine and alcohol some months before and on the trek.
Trek Permit and Travel Insurance
Do I/we need travel insurance for this trek?
Yes. Travel insurance is highly recommended for extreme elevation treks like Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake.
Trekkers often get altitude sickness at around 4,000 meters elevation on the trek. During such situations, they need a rapid descent. In the mountains, only a helicopter evacuation to Pokhara or Kathmandu is a fast descent.
Thus, travel insurance with helicopter rescue coverage can provide you with an on-time helicopter to the remote location of the Annapurna Conservation Area, located in Manang.
What are the advantages of having travel insurance for the trek?
Travel insurance with helicopter rescue coverage has many benefits. Here are some:
- Emergency Evacuation: The primary reason for getting travel insurance with helicopter rescue is for emergency evacuation. If you get altitude sickness anywhere on the trek, with valid travel insurance proof, you'll get a helicopter rescue.
- Insurance pays for the helicopter rescue: High-altitude helicopter rescue are expensive. But, with travel insurance, you don't need to pay a single penny, unless your insurance policy is strong. When your travel insurance partner pays for the rescue fee, you'll be flying back to the hospital in Kathmandu safe and sound.
- Compensation: The travel insurance policy compensates for various things like loss and damage of personal stuff on the trek, flight cancelations, dental fees, etc.
Does NepTrek get us travel insurance?
No. We don't provide or sell travel insurance to our clients. But, on request, we often recommend the best travel insurance policy to our clients.
Also, the cost you'll pay for this trek doesn't include or get you travel insurance. You must get one before embarking on the trek.

The group trekking depends on availability. If you prefer to group and we don't get any at the time you decide to trek, then you have to do it solo.
It's better to trek with your group if you have friends tagging along on this adventure.
Are the toilets and bathrooms at the tea houses good?
Yes. The tea houses along the trek provide quality toilets and bathrooms.
You'll get flush toilets at every place on the trek except at Thorong Phedi and High Camp. The attached toilets will be available only till Yak Kharka and Ledar.
Every tea house provides a hot shower. The hot showers are not in the attached toilet but in a separate shower room.
Note: You must pay for every hot water shower you take along the trek.
How much money do I need to carry for my expenses on the trek?
Your per-day expense on the trek can be USD 10-15. Thus, for the 15-day trek, USD 150 for personal expenses should be okay.

Yes. You must for the usage of WiFi, a hot shower, drinking water (boiled and bottled), and battery recharge.
Unlike other treks in Nepal, in Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake, the tea houses charge minimal fees for these amenities.
If you're buying boiled drinking water, we suggest a liter (one thermos) because hot water per cup can is expensive. And the boiled drinking water, per liter, costs USD 5-6. For bottled drinking water, you need to pay at least USD 2-3.
WiFi costs USD 3-5, which is the same for the battery charge as well. However, some tea houses let trekkers use wifi and electricity recharge for free.
The hot shower costs around USD 3-4 at every place.
Can I/we bring additional luggage for the trek?
We usually provide one porter for two trekkers, and on the trek, each trekker is allowed to bring one luggage weighing 10-12 kilograms.
However, if you want to bring additional luggage for the trek, we'll provide you with a duffle bag to put your stuff in.
