Awe-struck landscapes of Langtang
Langtang Valley sits 30 km inwards Nepal from the Tibetan border. North of this valley is a beautiful Langtang mountain range, with Langtang Lirung (7,245 meters) being the highest peak. Chim Se Danda (ridge), Ganja La Pass (5,122 meters), and Jugal Himal sit south of the Langtang Valley. The seepage from the glaciers of Mt. Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, and several other peaks feed the Langtang River that flows through the valley.
Langtang Valley Trek takes you to this heavenly landscape.
Enveloped by the scenic Dorje Lakpa (6, 966 meters) and Shisha Pangma (8, 013 meters), the two tallest peaks of Tibet are utterly visible during this trek.
There are other beautiful destinations in Langtang Valley than Kyanjin Gompa and Tsergo Ri that are worth the walk. High-altitude lake treks like Gosaikunda Trek, Bhairav Kunda Trek, and Dudh Kunda Trek are popular treks combined with Langtang Valley.
Panoramic Langtang Mountain Range
Langtang Valley is ample of North-Central mountains of Himalaya. There are 13 prominent mountains in the region. The highest mountain is Langtang Lirung (7,234 meters) and the lowest is Yala Peak (5,520 meters).
While on Langtang Valley Trek, you’ll see a handful of mountains in the region, including the close view of Langtang Lirung. Also, you’ll see the distinctive shaped Gangchenpo from Kyanjin Gompa and Tsergo Ri.
Tip: The sunrise over Langtang Lirung and sunset over Gangchenpo are show stealers. Don’t miss these moments.
Langtang Ri, Dorje Lhakpa, Loenpo Gang, Changbu, Langsisha Ri, and Morimoto are popular peaks in the region. You’ll behold these mountains while on a trek to Langtang. Moreover, you’ll trek to Tsergo Ri for the utmost view of the entire Langtang range.
People, culture, and traditions of Langtang Valley
Other exciting elements of Langtang Trek are the people, their cultures, and traditions. Although this place is close to Kathmandu, it’s still far off from the touch of modernism. Thus, you’ll get an unblemished Tamang cultural experience during the trek.
You’ll meet a handful of local people on the trek every day, whether walking or sitting at a tea house. Their language, attire, and way of life are the ones to watch. You’ll be impressed by their welcoming gestures and the warmth they talk with you.
Every day on the trek, you’ll come across the Buddhist prayer flags, stupas, mani-walls, and wheels. Even the decoration of tea houses showcases the enriched Tamang heritage and Buddhism. These elements not only make the trail look good but also offer serenity and a humble cultural experience to those new to it.
During Lhosar and Buddha Purnima, they hold celebrations. If you plan your Langtang Valley trek during these events in February and May, you’ll get the opportunity to learn and experience more about their wholesome traditions. Dancing, drinking, eating, and laughter-filled moments certainly elevate your Langtang Trek as a cultural trek in Nepal.
Moderate grade Langtang Trek: Ideal for novice trekkers
Langtang Valley Trek is an easy to moderate-grade trek. It means there are no challenging sections on the route where you’ll have difficulty walking. Due to this, this trek is ideal for first-time trekkers. Also, if you’re considering Everest Base Camp Trek or Annapurna Circuit Trek, trekking to Langtang can be a preparation and acclimatization walk.
The end-stop you’ll reach on this trek is 3,860 meters at Kyanjin Gompa. And if you wish to trek to Tsergo Ri, you’ll hike to an altitude of 5,033 meters. However, most trekkers trek to Kyanjin Ri at 4,700 meters altitude.
Considering the altitude, it’s not much. Moreover, trekkers barely get altitude sickness while trekking to Kyanjin Gompa and Kyanjin Ri.

Weather and Temperature

There are four seasons in Nepal. As a result, the weather and temperature at Langtang Valley vary depending on the time you trek here.
To put things in perspective, here's a brief overview of the weather and temperature in Langtang Valley for four seasons.
Spring (March-May)
Everyone enjoys trekking to Langtang Valley in the spring because it's one of the best times to do so. Why? The weather and temperature turn out to be ideal for the journey.
The blue skies, rhododendron blossoms, and snow-filled Langtang mountains make the trek the best. Also, it doesn't rain in March and April, which lets trekkers trek all day in pleasing weather.
Despite lower regions being warm, high-altitude places like Langtang and Kyanjin remain cold and freezing. The daytime temperature averages 6-7˚C, and the nighttime remains below 0˚C.
Autumn (September-November)
The clear days with greenery and snow capped mountains make autumn another great time to trek to Langtang Valley. From late September, trekkers start to flock in for this amazing trek.
With the summer rain, even Kyajnin Gompa turns lively green. The warm temperature, clear skies, and beautiful panorama also make autumn a busy time for this trek.
In the autumn, Langtang and Kyanjin Gompa remain very cold. The daytime temperature in higher regions averages 3–4 °C. Likewise, the nighttime temperature averages -5 °C in September and -15 °C in November.
Summer (June-August)
The summer months, from June to August, are hot, humid, and rainy. As a result, not many hikers plan the Langtang Valley Trek in these months. However, the summer trek is exciting due to the greenery, fresh outlook, and mountains.
The average temperature in these months is 10 °C at Kyanjin Gompa and Langtang Valley. The lower regions, however, remain very humid.
Due to rain, leeches, and overcast, we don't recommend you trek to Langtang in the summer months.
Winter (December-February)
December to February are the coldest months in Nepal. Hence, high-altitude trekking often gets challenging due to the drop in temperature. However, with proper clothing and gear, you can do this trek.
The entire Langtang Valley becomes a winter wonderland. However, it freezes the entire landscape with a temperature drop of -20 ˚C. Even the daytime remains freezing with an average temperature of -3˚C.

We advise you to bring a sleeping bag of at least -10˚C rating. If you want to rent, we'll provide one for USD 35 for the trek. With a sleeping bag, you'll get extra warmth for cozy sleep.

We recommend you bring chlorine tablets if you prefer cold drinking water with additional purification. You can also bring a built-in filter bottle for safe drinking water.
You can also purchase mineral water bottles at every tea house. However, each bottle can cost up to USD 3-5.
Can I get private room accommodation during the Langtang Valley Short Trek?
Usually, the tea houses have and provide twin-sharing rooms with attached bathrooms for accommodation. However, based on availability, on request, you may get a twin-sharing room.
Note: During trekking season, the tea houses often get busy and occupied. Hence, at that time, you may not get a private room. But we'll try our best to get you a private room when it becomes available.
Do I need to carry additional money (pocket money) for the trek?
Yes. You're required to carry Nepali currency to pay for personal expenses. Your personal expenses may include mineral water, hot water showers, wifi, cold drinks, extra tea or coffee, a horse ride, tipping trek guides and porters, and so on.
We recommend that you carry Nepali currency and withdraw money in Kathmandu or Syabrubesi. There aren't any ATMs on the trek, and the tea houses won't accept credit card payments.
Health and Safety
If I get altitude sickness during the trek, what will NepTrek Adventures do?
Your trek guide will assess altitude sickness first. If your symptoms are minor, with some rest, you'll continue the trek. However, with moderate and severe altitude sickness, you'll return either on a helicopter or a horseback ride.
Your trek guide arranges your return on a horse with mild symptoms. However, in severe cases, we'll dispatch a helicopter for evacuation. For helicopter evacuation, you'll need travel insurance.
Is there any acclimatization stop on this trek?
No. There's no acclimatisation day on this trek. However, you'll trek to Tsergo Ri from Kyanjin Gompa and return to Langtang Village on the fifth day of the trek. Overnighting a day before trekking to Tsergo Ri or Kyanjin Ri provides adequate acclimatization for you.
