Moreover, if you have some high-altitude trek experience, the Langtang Trek can be easy. Also, you can plan a 7-day Langtang Trek as a preparation trek if you plan to embark on demanding treks like the Everest Base Camp Trek.
The last human settlement landmark on this trek is Kyanjin Gompa. However, you can hike to Kyanjin Ri and Tsergo Ri, the two beautiful viewpoints. Here, while ascending to the viewpoints, the walk can get tiring and challenging. Worse, you may experience vomiting and nausea, common signs of altitude sickness. However, upon descending to Kyanjin Gompa or Langtang Village, you’ll get comfortable again.

Best time for Langtang Trek
The best time for Langtang Trek is Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-December).
March, April, and May are three beautiful Spring months, ideal for this trek. Early March blesses you with the wholesome sights of snow-capped mountains. Mid-Spring, throughout April, is perfect for rhododendron blossoms. The rhododendron blossom makes the lower regions like Lama Hotel, Ghoda Tabela, and Langtang Village vibrant. Moreover, the all-day clear favors the ultimate sightseeing from Kyanjin Ri and Tsergo Ri.
May-end to mid-June is the best time to trek Langtang Valley for greenery and a fresh outlook. The occasional rain, misty trails, and snow-filled mountains make these two months the best.
September and October are best for clear weather days. As these are post-rainy months, you’ll see greenery even at Kyanjin Gompa. The rain-washed, fresh, and green landscape leaves you in awe. Also, the temperature in Autumn starts decreasing, making it ideal and favourable for day walks.
If you prefer all-day mountain panorama, clear blue skies, sunrise, sunset, and are an avid landscape photographer, Langtang Trek in November is for you. But November can get cold, but it is the best month for this trek.
July and August are rainy months and not the best for this trek. And from December to February, it becomes cold and snowy, with daytime and nighttime temperatures below freezing. Also, the snowfall in winter makes it challenging to trek to Langtang. Hence, during late Summer and all winter, most tea houses remain closed due to cold, rain, and snow, with almost no trekkers en route.

Winter (December-February)
December to February are the coldest months in Nepal. Hence, high-altitude trekking often gets challenging due to the drop in temperature. However, with proper clothing and gear, you can do this trek.
The entire Langtang Valley becomes a winter wonderland. However, it freezes the entire landscape with a temperature drop of -20 ˚C. Even the daytime remains freezing with an average temperature of -3˚C.
Do I need to carry a sleeping bag for the trek?
A sleeping bag of at least 10˚C rating is advised but not mandatory for Langtang Valley Trek. However, it's always better to sleep nicely and warm inside a sleeping bag than just a pair of blankets over the bed.
A sleeping bag keeps you warm throughout the trek. Also, during the trekking season, you may not get multiple blankets. Thus, at such times, a sleeping bag keeps you warm all night.
Practical matters
Will I get safe drinking water during the trek?
Yes. You can either refill the running taps with cold water or buy boiled drinking water at the tea houses.
We recommend you bring chlorine tablets if you prefer cold drinking water with additional purification. You can also bring a built-in filter bottle for safe drinking water.
You can also purchase mineral water bottles at every tea house. However, each bottle can cost up to USD 3-5.
Can I get private room accommodation during the Langtang Valley Short Trek?
Usually, the tea houses have and provide twin-sharing rooms with attached bathrooms for accommodation. However, based on availability, on request, you may get a twin-sharing room.
Note: During trekking season, the tea houses often get busy and occupied. Hence, at that time, you may not get a private room. But we'll try our best to get you a private room when it becomes available.
Do I need to carry additional money (pocket money) for the trek?
Yes. You're required to carry Nepali currency to pay for personal expenses. Your personal expenses may include mineral water, hot water showers, wifi, cold drinks, extra tea or coffee, a horse ride, tipping trek guides and porters, and so on.
We recommend that you carry Nepali currency and withdraw money in Kathmandu or Syabrubesi. There aren't any ATMs on the trek, and the tea houses won't accept credit card payments.
I want to extend my Langtang Trek. Any recommendations?
Sure!
If you want to extend your Langtang Valley Trek, we recommend you Gosaikunda Trek, which is in the Langtang region. It takes 2-3 additional days to complete the trek and reach Dhunche.
As you return from Kyanjin Gompa, you'll reach Pairo, 6 km before Syabrubesi. From Pairo, instead of walking to Syabrubesi, you'll take the left turn and ascend to Thulo Syabru and Cholangpati.
Here's how the itinerary works:
- Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel. Overnight at Lama Hotel
- Trek from Lama Hotel to Pairo and ascend to Thulo Syabru.
- Trek from Thulo Syabru to Lauribinayak.
- Trek from Lauribinayak to Gosaikunda Lake. Trek down to Deurali/Dhunche.
- Trek to Dhunche for two hours from Deurali. Drive to Kathmandu.
Note: Instead of considering the trip extension, we recommend that you embark on the 10-day Langtang Gosaikunda Trek.
